You decide to lose some weight so you start looking for a new diet. You get started and you do great for a while. This is the stage of uninformed optimism
Then, doubt begins to creep in. You're now in the stage of informed pessimism. You know what it will take to reach your goals and you wonder if they're worth going after.
Then, you enter the VALLEY OF DESPAIR. If you're a yo-yo dieter, you've been there. It's normal to enter this stage when you're pursuing a goal.
Most of us quit at this point. We think our goals are too far away and it will take forever to reach them so we give up.
After you've given up you mope around for a while, then eventually you find another diet to start so you can go back to the stage of uniformed optimism. You never reach your goal or if you do, you don't stay there.
You don't have to stay stuck in the valley of despair. There is a way out. Take action. It doesn't have to be huge. Just take action every day and things will get better.
If your goal is to lose weight, change the goal. The goal should be to change your identity so you believe that you are someone who is fit and healthy.
Instead of looking at someone and wishing you had a body like them, say, "I’m working really hard to have a body like that."
Imagine how much your actions would change if your story was that of a healthy and fit woman who is aware of the food she puts in her body and the way she takes care of herself.
I'll share more in my next blog, including 2 steps you must take in order to get out of the valley of despair and to the other side.
