Hey there!
Oh, so you're in stage 2 of food grief? Well, join the club, honey. We've all been there, feeling ticked off that we can't eat whatever we want while everyone else indulges. It's not fair, right? But let's face it, life's not fair. Maybe you're angry that you let yourself gain weight again, or that your body can't handle pizza and beer like it used to. And now, thanks to menopause, you're stuck living on lettuce and water. Ugh, talk about a mood killer.
But hey, let's not forget that you're the one who has to put in all the work to shed those extra pounds. And trust me, I know it can feel overwhelming, especially when you've used food to cope with anger in the past.
But don't worry, adding some healthier foods to your diet can help lift your negative mood. And here's a little secret: it's totally normal to feel angry about the loss of food. So, don't beat yourself up over it.
Take some time to journal about your thoughts and feelings, then try the 4 N's process. Notice your emotions, name that difficult inner state (it doesn't have to be fancy), normalize it, and figure out your next best thought or action.
Name the DIS (difficult inner state). It doesn't have to be fancy.
Normalize this state. Ask yourself, "how would a compassionate person explain this difficult inner state?
Next best thought or action. What can I think or do for myself that moves me forward?
Remember, anger is just a necessary part of the food grief process. And once you let yourself feel it, you'll eventually move on to bargaining...and maybe even acceptance.
